Separation Anxiety

Well hello there…
Hehe, might be one of my favorite pictures of Clyde so far 🙂
I’m having a little anxiety about leaving him while I go to the Healthy Living Summit this weekend!  Greg will be home with him for two days, but then we’re leaving him with my friend Gibson for a night when Greg has to leave for work before I get back from Chicago.  I hope it goes ok!  This will be the first time we’ve left Clyde with someone else.  I’m kinda nervous about it.  I guess I have to cut the cord sometime, huh?
Do you get anxious about leaving your pets with people?
I’ll try and spend a little extra quality time with him this week.
What?  I wasn’t eating the bunny food!
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure Clyde…
I made some tortillini for dinner.  Topped it with some sauce, spinach, artichoke hearts, and roasted red pepper and a little mozzarella.
My friends Brent and Becky just had their first baby last week, a daughter named Regan.  I went over after dinner to visit!  So TINY and cute!
I brought the new parents some Bruster’s sundaes I picked up on my way.
I had half a peanut butter cup sundae myself:
It was so cool seeing them with their new baby.  They are completely enamored with her.  Adorable!
Off to bed!

A Fun Little Saturday

Saturday morning I woke up and enjoyed the last of my scuffins with macadamia nut butter drizzled on top:

Tasted like frosting 🙂
I also had a small bowl of fruit:
I got ready and headed out to a Bridesmaids’ Luncheon Kelly was having for us at 300 East.  I love this place.  It’s kind of like a cafe, and I’ve brought my mother and my friend Melanie for lunch a when they have visited.  The food and atmosphere is great, sort of victorian in a way with yummy cafe food.
I had a Sonoma Salad with crab meat on top:
Really yummy 🙂
We also had key lime pie with raspberries and raspberry sauce:
I like the raspberry/lime combo, great idea!
The bride to be!
It was a really nice luncheon.  And we got our bridesmaid gifts:
A necklace and earrings handmade by Kelly!  We’ll be wearing them next weekend for the wedding 🙂
After lunch, I was off to yoga.  My friend Josie wanted to meet me and try out the studio.  We attended a Vinyasa class, but it was REALLY basic, like for really new people.  It was a little too beginner for me, but regardless, I’m glad I went and got some yoga in.  Plus it was fun to hang with Josie.  We used to run together a lot and haven’t in a long time because of schedules and my injury.
After yoga I headed home to veg for a while.  When dinner rolled around, I whipped up some stirfry.
asparagus, red pepper, bok choy, mushrooms, and a little spinach.
I also threw in the last bit of orange/onion millet I had made a couple nights ago.  Stir-fried in a little grapeseed oil with some soy sauce and ginger.
Then I went out on the town for the first time in quite a while.  I met up with friends at Brazwells.
Gibson and Chloe are a newly formed couple in my circle of friends.  🙂
Chloe, Sarah, and I.
I had about one and a half Blue Moons and a couple sweet potato fries we ordered.  A good time was had by all.
I also randomly ran into Diana at Brazwells!  She was at the next table 🙂

A Whirlwind Saturday

I actually have some pictures to post!  The advantage of being friends with other bloggers is that the have their camera armed and ready most of the time and I spent two meals with Kelly Saturday, so she graciously sent me pictures of our happenings :).  I kicked it off with a long walk with Clyde and then a couple circuits of Jillian Michaels.  Then I got ready for another bridal shower for Kelly.  This one was for family and bridesmaids and was lunch at a tea room.  It was really cute 🙂  Kelly and I actually ordered the same thing- spinach quiche with a salad and fruit.

The quiche was especially delicious.
We also had fabulous cupcakes made by Kelly’s Aunt.
I got Kelly this pitcher from Pottery Barn from her registry:
After the shower I ran some errands.  I got a new pair of yoga pants, pet food, and got my oil changed.
Then I headed home to hang with the pup for a couple hours.  Then something traumatic happened.  I was outside with Clyde.  I always take him out on his leash, because I’m paranoid he’ll run away.  I had him in the front yard.  Our neighbors have three dogs- a pug, a little white dog (not sure what breed), and a german shephard.  I actually don’t see their dogs that often.  They take them out in the backyard and occasionally I’ll see them going up or down the deck stairs, but I’ve never interacted with them.  They also don’t ever really have their dogs on leashes, which doesn’t seem to be a big deal because they follow whoever takes them out.  Well, yesterday Clyde was far enough over in the front yard that he and the german shephard happened to lock eyes when they were out at the same time.  The next thing I knew the shephard took off running towards us and I immediately reacted by trying to run with Clyde towards our front door.  I fell trying to run in flip flops and grab the shephard before Clyde became a chew toy.  I was able to somehow get up and get Clyde inside before he got hurt and the girl next door got to her dog to call him back.  I ended up scratching up my leg really badly though.  I have about a 4 inch “road rash” on my shin, and my hand is also scratched up.  I went inside and kind of freaked out.  Greg happened to call right then and I cried and whined on the phone to him.  I bandaged myself up and put ice on my wound.  My neighbor (the husband/father) actually came over to apologize after hearing what happened.  I’m really not mad at him.  He said his dog is harmless, and he’s probably right, but I wasn’t going to stand by and watch my dog get torn to shreds if he wasn’t.  That’s the problem with a little dog.  You worry about their safety a lot.  Big dogs are kind of a threat.  I feel like they should have their dogs on leashes just in case.
Anyway, it’s over, but I’m not happy about the big gash on my leg.  Not good timing in the middle of summer where I want to wear dresses and shorts.  I would do it again though to make sure Clyde is safe.  My motherly instincts appear to be kicking in…
I contemplated not going to dinner, but since I couldn’t call anyone (still don’t have a phone), I figured I’d suck it up and go, even though part of me wanted to stay in and ice my leg.  I met Kelly, John, Thomas, and Jess for dinner at Fiamma.  It’s Charlotte Restaurant Week and participating restaurants have a three course meal for $30.  I actually arrived first and asked the waiter for a wine recommendation, he mentioned a Super Tuscan and I pretty much tuned out the rest of his suggestions and knew that was what I wanted.  My parents have long been fans of Super Tuscans and they are kind of rare.  When the rest of the crew arrived they wanted it too and got a bottle.

For my dinner, I opted for a Caprese style salad.

This might have been the best fresh mozzarella I’ve eaten.  It was incomparably creamy and yummy 🙂
I got black shrimp ravioli with lobster sauce as my entree.
I finished with tiramisu, but only got partway through it before boxing it up to take home.
Here is a shot of our dinner group.
Thanks to Kelly for all the pictures!  I’m hoping I’m back in business with a camera sometime this week…

Dining Al Fresco

I love eating outside when the weather is nice.  Today I dined Al Fresco for two out of three of my meals.  Breakfast was a smoothie that I drank on the way in the car.  Maybe that actually counts as 1/2 al fresco…?  Anyway, Kelly has been working from home on Fridays to save her sanity, and since she lives about 4 blocks from my building, she invited me for lunch (thanks Kel!!).  We had yummy tempeh and veggie quesadillas and salad with avocado and cucumber dressed with honey and lemon juice (I’m going to have to start doing that at home!).  It was so beautiful out today, so we ate on her terrace overlooking the city.  I loved the food, the company, and the view.  And Rascal joined us out there too 🙂
The work day pretty much dragged on and on, being that it’s the day before a holiday weekend.  I was hoping someone would come to my office and tell me we could leave early, but that never happened.  Darn.  I got home, and took Clyde for a walk.
Dinner was a leftover stuffed pepper, and a grilled zucchini.

And I ate out on the deck!

Clyde joined me…
We enjoyed the view…
I’m off to pack.  I’m meeting the pilot in Charleston, West Virginia tomorrow night!

Hello Baby!

Saturday started with a run in the morning.  I did a double loop around the neighborhood and it wasn’t too terribly hot out.  Felt good actually:)
Greg and I each had a Green Monster (spinach, ice, vanilla soy milk, vanilla whey protein, banana, a smear of almond butter, and a handful of frozen rasperries).
Then we got ready to go to the baby shower.  It was a co-ed shower held at a restaurant in South Park called Village Tavern at lunchtime.

The parents-to-be!

Daddy-to-be (notice his medal!)
Michelle and Gibson sat next to us.
Greg and I.

We played a couple of the obligatory shower games.  Michelle correctly guessed the number of Snickers (42) in the baby bottle and won it! Nom nom nom…

I had a Thai chicken salad that was never ending, but pretty yummy!  We also had delicious cake that was as dense as poundcake.  Pretty heavenly.
The presents were opened…

The favors were litle tins of M&Ms and tiny little Chinese take-out boxes with mints in them.
Greg and I with Becky and Brent.
Good times!!

Thursday night happenings

Ok, it’s officially hotter than Hades in Charlotte.  I got to get out of the office for a while during the day Thursday for a presentation to some middle and high school students (it was cute!) and I looked at the temp on my dash on the way back to the office and it read 103 DEGREES!  Later on I had my camera with me and took this picture around 6:15pm, still HOT!

It was brutal.  Jen and I had talked about going for a walk last night now that she’s on the way to recovery from surgery, but we checked in with each other and decided it wasn’t gonna happen with the temps that high.  Instead we opted to meet for dinner.  Eating is always ok with me!
We went to Red Bowl Bistro.  I had a veggie spring roll, the Philadelphia roll, and the Red Bowl roll (which consisted of shrimp, crab, and either cucs or avocado- can’t remember).

I haven’t had sushi in a while though, and it really hit the spot!
After dinner we randomly decided to cruise through a nearby Dollar Tree just for kicks.  Lots o’ junk in there, but I did walk out with a cute butterfly gift bag for this weekend’s baby shower. $1 = ka-ching!
We also grabbed a couple groceries at the grocery store.  My main mission was more BANANAS for banana soft serve, which will likely be making an appearance oh on a daily basis!
Back at la casa it was finally cooling down and I decided to take Clyde on a long walk around the neighborhood in hopes of wearing him out.  He’s not really showing any signs of slowing down since his neutering and every night I battle to get him to calm down.  We ran into my neighbor from across the street, who’s a really nice lady and has a dog and she and I walked the dogs and chatted.  Clyde got along well with her dog Dolly.  It was cute.
Did some dishes, and called it a night.

Blogger Meet-Up Run and Lunch!

This morning I woke up bright and early and made a batch of fruit salad.

I got going to meet some pretty famous bloggers for a run/walk on the greenway in Charlotte.  Jen and I carpooled and met Kelly, Jen, and Kath at her house and headed to the greenway.  Emily was already there doing a marathon training run.  Jen had surgery on Friday and I opted to stay with her and walk so she wouldn’t be alone.

(Kath’s photo)

Post-run we headed back to Kath’s house and had quite the spread of food for lunch.  We had two different kinds of bread from Great Harvest, two different kinds of jam,  Kath’s awesome spread of butters- including coconut, Biscoff, and Nutzo, brie cheese and herbed cheese, fruit salad, muffins, oatmeal raisin cookies, and I brought Roasted Red Pepper and Artichoke Heart Hummus.  Recipe as follows:

(picture taken by Kath…how I forgot to bring my camera to a blogger meet-up, I do not know!!)

-1 16 oz can of chickpea and 1/3 can of liquid from can
-about 6 halves of artichoke
-about 1/2 a roasted red pepper
-1 1/2 tablespoons of tahini
-2 cloves minced garlic
-1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
-1-2 tablespoons of olive oil or I just used some oil from the artichokes.

Blend everything in the food processor until desired consistency.  I served mine with some carrots, cucumbers, and celery and some pita chips.  It was good stuff 🙂
Lunch with the bloggers was a lot of fun and the food was delicious.  I really enjoyed getting to meet people who’s blogs I’ve been reading all this time!  Thanks for a good time girls!!
